Pregnancy As a Disease

Facts:

  • The United States' doctor to patient ratio is the highest in the world
  • The United States is the most technologically astute nation in the world
  • The United States has the highest infant mortality rate in the industrialized world.

WHY?

One of the reasons is because pregnacy is treated as a disease rather than the natural process it is.

If you had an instrument screwed into the top of your head, you might register a little distress.

That's common procedure in U.S. hospitals when a pregnant woman is being prepared for delivery. A "fetal monitor" is inserted through the woman's vagina and into the fetus' head. If the fetus registers distress after the fetal monitor is screwed into its head, a Caesarian birth is often performed. This is just one of the unnatural procedures attendant in U.S. hospital born births, paritally due, in this era of malpractice and a litigant encouraged society, to the physician's fear of a malpractice suit.

Aside from the stress, danger, time and added expense a Caesarian birth entails, it deprives the mother and baby of the many natural and beneficial processes enacted by going through the birth canal.

The majority of babies throughout the world, including 3rd World Countries, are born safely at home with the aid of midwives. From the moment of birth the infant is exposed to its natural surroundings rather than those in disease-laden hospitals where incurable staph infections debilitate and claim lives by the thousands.

In the past it was thought only the poor and rural area people availed themselves of midwives. Today, for the most part, it's the mothers-to-be who are aware enough to educate themselves on the important matter of birthing who are choosing to use midwives.

Unfortunately, in many areas uniformed individuals have fallen prey to scare-mongering tactics used to intimidate the masses who then feel it their right to deny women their birthing choice.

Following is some information on Alabama Friends Of Midwives. (ed. - see the rest of this website) If you care about the health and well being of our mothers-to-be and their babies, I hope you will read this and then take a minute to go to their website to sign the petition to allow women this choice.
